"Stand"

When you stop to think,

And your feelings sink,

Beneath what you can bear.

‘Bout what you’ve done,

And you rerun,

The times you didn’t care.

The hope for you,

Please know it’s true,

God’s grace can cover all.

He knows your pain,

His love remains,

Just listen to His call.

Forgives and heals,

His grace is real,

And you no longer pay.

The debt is gone,

For all our wrong,

And you will be okay.

You can’t outrun,

The devil’s gun,

When he loads it with despair.

But you can win,

By facing him,

In Jesus’ name, to dare,

To stand and fight,

Out in the light,

And put the past behind,

Resist the snake,

He cannot take,

What God has helped you find.

“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you…” (James 4:7, NLT)

According to scripture, humility is the grace-trigger. When we humble ourselves, grace is poured out upon us with great measure. That’s why we should then resist the devil and put him on the run. The greatest tool the enemy uses against us is our past failings. Someone has said, when the devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future! Regret, discouragement and despair are real enough, but may be objectified in light of God’s grace. When seen for what they really are, grace empowers us to stand against the accuser, and make him go. And that’s a very good thing.

Lord, help us put the devil on the run, in Jesus’ name.
