"Home"

They say home is where the heart is,

And you know, I understand,

Especially since we’ve traveled,

Far across the land.

Up through that old panhandle,

Where Charlie Goodnight came,

Many a long year ago,

And the XIT the same.

Traveled past the old TO,

And through the Raton Pass,

Up and through old Trinidad,

Where the Purgatoire runs fast.

Stonewall and old Waldenburg,

And Colorado Springs,

Garden of the gods we saw,

It just beat everything.

With friends out there in Kiowa,

And then to Estes Park,

And finally to old Cheyenne,

For Frontier Days to start.

And then turned back to Texas,

Though not in such a rush,

Some thought we should speed it up,

But our spirits just said hush.

And so we traveled peacefully,

Back to old Texas’ heart,

But this is just the point I make,

And felt it from the start.

Home is more about with whom,

Than ever about where,

We’re at home with those we love,

It’s great to be right there.

And my love traveled with me,

To take in all the sights,

And though we were both far away,

Together days and nights.

And when you walk with Jesus,

And seek to do His will,

You’ll enjoy His presence,

And He is with us still.

And since our hearts belong to Him,

Home with Him we’ll stay,

No matter how far we may roam,

He’s with us, come what may.

Yes, home is where the heart is,

And it’s heaven In the end,

But we get some along the way,

Because Christ lives within.

“Jesus replied, ‘All who love Me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them…’” (John 14:23, NLT)

When we think of home it most probably brings up memories about a place that we remember. When people are getting to know each other, one of the questions that is often asked is, “Where are you from?” We call Texas home, and are thankful for it. But spiritually, home is about a relationship. In the same chapter where Jesus talked to the disciples about a heavenly home that He was going to prepare for them, He spoke of an intimate relationship in which God the Father and the Son would make their home with those who obey. So home has always been more about who than where. Has the Lord made His home with us? He has if we receive Him and cooperate with His will.

Lord, make Your home with us and in us, in Jesus’ name.
