"Home of the Brave"
The longest sweep of history,
Man’s last great hope of liberty,
Where the free-est of the free,
We the people rise to lead.
And those who don’t believe it,
Almost can’t conceive it,
But America won’t leave it,
When greatest is the need.
We overcome disaster,
No one can move faster,
The injury we master,
And the world knows that we care.
When evil comes to threaten,
You can be sure, you’re bettin’,
On our help you’re gettin’,
Americans will be there.
It’s still the dream of freedom,
Those who will fight we need ‘em,
Dictators won’t succeed ‘em,
Home of the free and brave.
And God is still the reason,
That our nation shines a beacon,
In this and every season,
Our God will always save.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.” (Psalm 33:12, NAS)
Clearly this scripture was written to describe Israel but it has a contemporary application for the United States of America. There is really no such thing as a “Christian” nation, since the message of Christ calls for the conversion of individuals, not groups or nations. That said, the founders of our nation shared a biblical worldview that acknowledged political freedoms granted by a Creator, not a government. This unique conception of equality based divine providence has built the free-est and most prosperous nation on earth. It’s good to remember these things when its time to exercise our right to vote.
Lord, help appreciate our freedom, in Jesus’ name.
