"Horseman"

The old ways not forgotten,

By the horsemen who still ride,

And though they’re often silent,

I will in you confide,

That the old ways that they practice,

Of rein and spur and bit,

Are traditions that are handed down,

And they have learned, that’s it.

Each day that they saddle up,

And gently step on board,

Old history they’re reliving,

They find the old song’s chord,

Of those who rode in yesteryear,

The knights and kings of yore,

And all the many herdsmen,

And cowboys from before.

The warriors and the cavalrymen,

The racers, one and all,

Bronc-stompers and the whisperers,

From their own times they call.

A long, long line of people,

All races, places, too,

They have one thing in common,

It’s the horses that they knew.

And I’m a small part of it,

‘Cause since I was a kid,

I rode ‘em and I loved ‘em,

And that’s just what I did.

And now I’m in my later years,

But I’ll still horseback be,

Until I cannot do it,

That’s when they’ll bury me.

And looking to the future,

The promise that God made,

Is Jesus will return one day,

On a great white horse He said.

And thousands will come with Him,

The hosts of heaven strong,

All mounted alongside Him,

And some think, not too long.

Before the mighty horseman,

Who is the King of kings,

Will gather all His children,

The Lord of everything.

The old ways and the new ways,

Will then converge as one,

When Jesus Christ our Savior,

Says history Is done.

“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout…” (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NLT)

Jesus is coming again. Multiple passages of scripture promise it and the major, historical creeds of the Christian church affirm it. History will end one day. It is moving to a conclusion, when every wrong will be righted, all evil will be conquered and banished, and the curse replaced by only blessing. it will be so wonderful we can hardly conceive it. The scriptural pictures of Jesus returning on a great white horse with the hosts of heaven also mounted alongside Him bring great encouragement and inspiration. The dark will get darker before the light takes over, but don’t be discouraged! Jesus is coming, and He is Lord of all.

Lord, help us to live in the inspiration of Your coming, in Jesus’ name.
