"Hydrate"

A Poem by Brad McClain

The well is deep and from its depths,

We draw life-giving flow,

Our souls to keep, to guide our steps,

His gift to us we know.

Dehydrated dry, our desperate need,

There is no substitute,

To Christ we cry, His noble deed,

Will heal us at the root.

The desert place from which we flee,

Cannot block our way,

We thirst for grace so bold and free,

His Word trumps all who say.

The drought will rule, we cannot drink,

The scoffers there they sit,

Their lie is cruel, they can’t out-think,

The truth that God won’t quit.

Those who thirst will not go dry,

The living waters run,

It’s Jesus first, who will supply,

And quench us till we’re done.

“Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.’” (John 4:13-14, NAS)

Jesus offered spiritual water to the woman at the well. He claimed it would do two things. First it would quench her thirst forever. Think about what He was saying. From this day forward your spiritual thirst will be satisfied. Period. Second, it would spring up and overflow her life, making a positive impact on the lives of people around her. The water would not only satisfy her life, it would give her life its purpose. Sch is the presence of God’s Spirit for all of us.

Lord, quench our thirst and overflow our lives, in Jesus’ name.
