"Longing"
Are you working on a family ranch,
Or some big place out west,
Maybe living in a town somewhere,
But still you do your best,
To hold onto the cowboy way,
‘Cause it’s really who you are,
It’s something on the inside,
More than where you live by far.
And everybody’s different,
We all have unique needs,
But somewhere along the way,
They planted cowboy seeds.
And so you ride the weekends,
Or anytime you can,
While some still make their livin’,
Daily horseback ‘cross the land.
And I see lots of longing,
For a life close to the soil,
Simple and less stressful,
With reward for sweat and toil.
People hunger for what Grandpa had,
And along with all of that,
Remember that he loved the Lord,
And on Sunday there he sat,
In church a-singin’ those old songs,
And hearing preacher preach,
And now it seems so long ago,
And so far out of reach.
‘Cause underneath the cowboy way,
Is somethin’ very strong,
I’ve thought a lot about it,
And I don’t think I’m wrong.
That there’s a deep down hunger,
For the Lord and livin’ right,
Sick of chaos and confusion,
Run from darkness to the light.
So the bottom line is Jesus,
If we know Him or we don’t,
If we accept salvation,
Or reject His love and won’t.
And if you are a cowboy,
Or love the cowboy way,
The most important thing to do,
Is find Jesus Christ today.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6, NIV)
Life revolves around our desires and how we choose to satisfy them. Some are governed by addictions, and trying to satisfy them with chemicals can become very destructive. Others are dominated by their desire for food, sex or sleep. Eating is not wrong, but gluttony is a sin. Sex is not wrong, but outside of God’s boundaries, it is. Sleep is not wrong, but resting before you do anything is laziness. What you do about what you want matters. The deeper desires are not physical but come from the heart. God’s word promises that those who hunger and thirst for what’s right will be filled. The God-shaped vacuum in all of us can be filled by Jesus. Choose wisely.
Lord, satisfy our hunger and thirst for righteousness, in Jesus’ name.
