"Loyalty"
I’ve waited for people who didn’t come through,
And waited again when their words were untrue,
And wondered while waiting just what I should do,
Their promise meant nothing to them.
They even used God to make their excuse,
As if the Good Lord would have any use,
For something dishonest and meant to confuse,
But claimed they were just serving Him.
Of godless religion we should beware,
People of faith who really don’t care,
To their own agenda their loyalty swear,
But as mean as the devil can be.
Stay with the ones who do what they say,
Ride the river with those who with you will stay,
And when there’s a problem they’ll find a way,
They’re loyal and it’s plain to see.
Run only with those who agree.
“And all the things you heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men will also be qualified to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2:2, NIV)
Paul gave Timothy the strategy for making disciples. The key word is “reliable.” These people are not always easy to find, and when we do, they are worthy of our spiritual investment. We love everyone. We forgive those who let us down. But we disciple those who are ready to hear something and show loyalty. God will help us if we are willing.
Lord, help us to find the people who are trustworthy enough to be taught, in Jesus’ name.
