"Mare"
You reckon she’ll be ready,
When it comes time to go,
He hoped that she’d go with him,
But he didn’t really know.
She was his best companion,
Each hour, month, and year,
Each time he was astride her,
To him she grew more dear.
He raised her as a filly,
And now a full-grown mare,
He could not imagine,
A day without her there.
I know they say they’re marish,
And troublesome to keep,
But that did not deter him,
The price he paid was cheap.
‘Cause she had once been ornery,
When a yearling was abused,
But he got her past it,
By teaching her the cues,
That come when you are trusting,
And know the job to do,
And this is just the process,
To bring from false to true.
And now he calls her to him,
Can she leave the pasture home,
Will she break with other horses,
To a new adventure roam.
And suddenly they’ve started,
Down the road and then away,
And if she ever wanted,
She did not balk or stay.
So if you want the reason,
Some cowboys ride a mare,
It’s about the bonding,
And showing one you care.
“Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock…” (Isaiah 26:4, NLT)
Any relationship worth having is based upon trust. With a horse, a friend, a spouse, a business parter, a teammate- whatever. All must have trust to be healthy and thrive. Sadly, not everyone is worthy of our trust. Trust can be betrayed, and it’s a sad disappointment when this happens. Sometimes our hurts cause us to trust no one, not even the Lord. But the good news is that God can be trusted. He is ultimately the One who will never let us down, never disappoint. The more we trust the Lord, the more discernment He will give us in trusting others.
Lord, teach us to trust You entirely, in Jesus’ name.
