"Mileage"

It’s the miles and the mileage, it’s the effort and try,

It’s the distance we’ve traveled, and the time that’s gone by.

It’s the heartbreak and humor, it’s the laughter and tears,

It’s the things that near killed us through these many years.

It’s the failure and victory, it’s the warp and the woof,

It’s the mountains we climbed up to show all the proof,

It’s persistence and pointing to goals that we set,

And in spite of the hardship it’s the joy that we get,

It’s the pleasure of knowing that you gave it your all,

And the deep grateful feeling of hearing God’s call.

It’s the praise and the worship and the joy of the Lord,

And living by faith in the Spirit’s own sword.

It’s life’s great adventure, abundant and free,

And it’s all ‘cause of Jesus who wants us to be.

“If the Lord delights in a man’s way, He makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.” (Psalm 37:23, NIV)

Sometimes life feels like one challenge after another. But God is good, and we can look back and see that He was holding onto us. Many times we stumble, but the Lord prevents us from falling. His faithfulness sustains us, and we are taught by every experience to trust Him more. One of my early mentors signed every letter this way: “Yours in sharing life’s adventure with Christ.” And the adventure of knowing Him and making Him known continues.

Lord, help us to be as faithful to You as You are to us, in Jesus’ name.
