"Muddy Miracle"
Jesus spit onto the ground,
Crouching, scooping soil,
The blind man stood before Him,
A life of pain and toil.
Jesus splattered mud He made,
Onto the man’s blind eyes,
Told him to go and wash it off,
And to his surprise,
When he returned the man could see,
A miracle was done,
Changed his life because from birth,
He’d never seen the sun.
When they asked him how and who,
He told the simple facts,
But they doubted what he said,
Though all could see God acts.
And later Jesus found him,
And told him who He was,
And the healed man worshipped Jesus,
In thankfulness because,
One thing that he knew for sure,
And they heard him say,
I once was blind, but now I see,
‘Cause Jesus came my way.
“‘While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’ Having said this, He spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. ‘Go,’ He told him, ‘wash in the Pool of Siloam.’ So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.” (John 9:5-7, NIV)
In John chapter nine we have the story of a very unusual miracle. It is only found in the Gospel of John, and tells about how Jesus healed a man who had been blind from birth. Jesus made mud with His saliva and put it on the man’s blind eyes, then told him to go wash it off. When he did, he was healed! But he did not know who had healed him. He was grilled by the Pharisees, and the gist of his testimony was that he didn’t know who or exactly how it happened, but that he had always been blind but now he could see. Jesus later found him and told the man who He was. Then he worshipped Jesus. Sometimes Jesus moves in an incognito way in our lives, and often He uses the most ordinary things to accomplish a miracle. Never underestimate the willingness of Jesus to use the mundane to do a life-changing miracle.
Lord, we ask for Your miracles in our lives, in Jesus’ name.
