"My Soul"

Sometimes when sorrow takes its toll,

Seems like depression’s on a roll,

And feeling lost down in my soul,

Lord, make it go away.

I turn to Him, He understands,

And valleys deep, part of His plans,

His grace relieves, I know it can,

And He will always stay,

Says I will be okay.

I do not sit and myself stew,

‘Cause there is more work I can do,

To reclaim joy to see me through,

I’ll go get something done.

Sometimes I think if I will act,

God’s peace I’m feeling that I lack,

As I work I get It back,

In His strength I can run,

And dodge the devil’s gun.

And then there is my horseback time,

There with God’s nature feeling fine,

And meditate on Good Book’s line,

His Word my mind relieves.

Make a circle, see the sights,

Pastures, trees in God’s sunlight,

Checking stock if they’re alright,

The day’s joys I receive,

From my soul I believe.

Sadness will not have last say,

And that’s because there was a day,

When Jesus died and made a way,

To access God’s great love.

And each day is a special gift,

His promises my soul will lift,

To bless His name and burdens shift,

The grace from God above,

Fills like a hand in glove.

“Listen to my prayer; rescue me as You promised…” (Psalm 119:170, NLT)

We all feel discouraged at times, and are tempted to let it get the best of us. But we have a choice to make about how we feel. We can be overwhelmed by depression, or we can proactively do something about it. Can I tell you that I know it can be very difficult to find the energy to do anything when depression sets in? But that’s when we most need to take action. Turn to the Lord and call out to Him. Ask Him to help you. Then, find a trusted friend or counselor to talk to about what’s bothering you. You might even need a prescription to help you even things out, and there is no disgrace in that at all. God uses all the above to lift us out of despair. He heals the broken-hearted and give us grace to go on, even when we’re tempted to give up. Don’t! Look up, and find God’s way forward. You can, and He will help you.

Lord, rescue us, as You promised, in Jesus’ name.
