"Name"
The cowboy names that have the fame,
Impacted me, I”m not the same.
For Roy and Gene and John Wayne seen,
On silver screen, first cowboy dream.
Fast forward time, life’s hill to climb,
But I still find, a cowboy line.
It’s Chris LeDoux, Red Steagall, too,
R.W., Gore, and Ian, true.
Don Edwards’ songs, Brenn Hill belongs,
Dave Stamey, Strait, the list is long.
And Andy Hedges with his verse,
And old Corb Lund is not the worst.
Love Waylon yet and don’t forget,
Jerry Jeff and Shaver’s bet,
A gravel road with lighter load,
The harvest that those names have sowed.
But of all the names, that stake a claim,
To this old heart, a-horseback came,
I’ll say there’s one, Jesus, God’s Son,
That I’ll confess till this life’s done.
And then I’ll ride, with those who side,
With His Kingdom, never hide,
Those pastures there, without a care,
Forever share, God’s presence there.
“God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved…” (Acts 4:12, NLT)
Have you ever wondered why this is true? Many people don’t believe it. They say it’s narrow-minded to think there is only one name and one way to be saved. For them, any way or name will do if you’re sincere about it. Of course that logic breaks down quickly when you consider terrorists killing people in the name of their god, and doing it sincerely. You may disagree with what the Scriptures teach, and that’s your choice. Without any judgment and without any condemnation for anyone, I affirm what this verse says. God has given no other name under heaven by which to be saved. It’s the name of Jesus, and there’s great power in the name. At His name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. I believe…and perhaps God has made it so because He designs it to be a simple, not multiple, choice. The Good News is no less profound because of its simplicity. There is no other name, and all who call on that name will be saved.
Lord, help us accept the wonder and the mystery of salvation in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
