"No Shame"
What happens when your yesterday,
Is getting way too loud,
Regrets that want to come and stay,
Into your thoughts they crowd.
And then the old accuser,
Comes to lay his guilt on you,
Reminds that you’re a loser,
And there’s not much you can do.
To make up for the error,
Of the sins that you once did,
And you relive the terror,
That you felt back as a kid.
And just when the darkness rolls,
Like a fogbank ‘cross your heart,
You remember that the Lord controls,
Your life and every part.
His whisper says, “Not guilty,”
There no more shame to bear,
For all that was or will be,
Your pardon I declare.
For now no condemnation,
For those He calls to grace,
The gift of God’s salvation,
Makes us safe in His embrace.
The blood stops the accuser,
The testimony’s strong,
We don’t fear the abuser,
Because it won’t be long,
Till even death is ended,
We welcome that sweet day,
‘Cause Jesus has befriended,
And we will be okay.
“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1, NAS)
Being “in Christ Jesus” means we have received Jesus as Savior and He has become the Lord of our lives. Being in Him means we have received full pardon for every sin, and are made right with God based upon the death and resurrection of Jesus. We have received what He died to give us, and we have escaped all condemnation. That means we have been given full assurance that when we die we will go directly and immediately into the presence of the Lord. It also means that we no longer bear the burden of shame for our sins. It is inevitable that we will look back with some regret over sins we have committed. But we are free from the shame because the Spirit has set us free. So be it, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, help us live without condemnation, in Jesus’ name.
