"Open Door"

We should not ignore, God’s wide open door,

That opens right after we pray.

Lord, show us Your will, and then He will fill,

Our thoughts with ideas right away.

But we second-guess, or we wonder at best,

If we really hear Him or not,

But He says that we, should follow, you see,

Since the voice of the Shepherd we’ve got.

If we try to obey, the things He will say,

And make faith the way that we live,

He’ll course-correct, stop us I ‘spect,

Direction He says He will give.

So follow the grace, the smile on His face,

And go at it with all of your heart,

The Spirit gives peace, horizons release,

And equips if you’ll only take part.

“He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out…” (John 10:3, NLT)

Jesus said that all of His sheep would hear His voice. he spoke the truth. But why than do so many Christians say that they never have heard God speak to them? I believe it’s because our lives are filled with noise that drowns out the voice of the Spirit. He speaks in many ways- through the Bible, His creation, people, music, and the quiet, internal voice of the Spirit. But if we cannot hear, it must be because we need to learn to listen. Be still and know, the psalmist said. Maybe that would be the first step. Just get still, get quiet, and ask the Lord to speak.

Lord, speak to us, in Jesus’ name.
