"Place"

Sometimes when dusk is coming on,

And moonrise shows its face,

I look around at what God made,

And thank Him for this place.

And, yes, I see the chores undone,

There’s always lots to do,

Reminded by the setting sun,

That I just can’t get through.

Horses fed and cattle, too,

Water troughs all filled,

A big old owl swoops from his perch,

A field mouse he has killed.

The breeze picks up and my heart, too,

The shadows fill the land,

The Brazos carries Texas’ soul,

And everywhere God’s brand.

The horses move, the deer come out,

The twilight rules again,

I can’t help but thank the Lord,

For circles where I’ve been,

That led me here to live my days,

With peace and, yes, with her,

The sadness that I used to feel,

Our love won’t let occur.

And soon I bid the dark good night,

And welcome food and rest,

And though I hail from Alabam,

This Texas is the best.

“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as an inheritance, obeyed and went, even thought he did not know where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8, NIV)

Where we live is not the most important thing about our lives, but it does matter. The main thing is to be where God wants you to be. God called Abraham to leave his father’s home and go to a land that God would show him. He obeyed the Lord and headed out, even though he was uncertain where he was actually going. We are on a “need to know” basis with God, and typically we want to know more than we do. But God is faithful to lead us to the places we need to be if we will simply obey Him.

Lord, help us find the place You want us to be, in Jesus’ name.
