"Plains"
Across the plains we traveled,
I thought how hard it was,
For folks to come in wagons,
To find new lives because,
They thought it would be better,
To find a brand-new place,
And go through all the hardships,
Their western dreams embrace.
And we came up from Texas,
To help our cowboy friends,
Here in old Colorado,
And ‘fore our time here ends,
We pray we can encourage,
Their hearts’ God-given dreams,
Spread the hope and love of Christ,
As God’s own Spirit streams.
And then cross those old plains again,
As to Texas home we go,
And pray the Lord’s great blessing,
And all His grace to show.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…” (Hebrews 10:24, NIV)
Those who use spurs know that they are there to encourage the horse to do the right things. They are not there to injure or abuse. We are called to spur one another on to love and good deeds. How do we do this? By speaking the truth in love and then lead by example. Others are encouraged both by what we say and do. Sometimes the truth we need to hear makes us uncomfortable, but if said in love, we receive it to our good. Following the example of those who are consistently serving Christ is also a great inspiration. Let us do this, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, help us to encourage one another, in Jesus’ name.
