"Script"

Ancient places, ancient people,

Who lived so long ago,

Breathed on by the Spirit,

How could they ever know,

That what they heard and scribbled,

Would come down to today,

Collected into scripture,

For what they had to say.

And we now open pages,

With words that touch us deep,

Relevant, life-changing,

The truth our souls can keep.

Designed no doubt about it,

By the Holy Spirit’s touch,

To bring the Word of God to us,

We need it, oh so much.

Time cannot erode it,

It’s critics are deceived,

It stands, though some deny it,

But generations have received,

Healing and deliverance,

With hope on how to live,

It’s still the truth that liberates,

Strong blessings it will give.

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” (Romans 15:4, NIV)

The Scriptures are inspired by the Holy Spirit and its teachings give us hope. Hope is the powerful expectation that something is going to change for the better. It may not be completely certain, but it can be the first flicker of faith that prompts a whole chain of events that lead to a new future. Hope, faith and action are fueled by the word of God. When we are familiar with what God said yesterday, we will more clearly hear what He is saying to us now.

Lord, feed our hope with Your word, in Jesus’ name.
