"Promise-Keeper"
Promises are powerful,
They fill our hearts with hope,
Raise our expectations,
And energize our lope.
And even more life-changing,
Is a promise that is kept,
Or to have the devastation,
Of one broken, no hope left.
We serve a God of promise,
And who always will be true,
His faithfulness is legend,
And what He says He’ll do.
And that is why His children,
Own such confidence, you see,
For His Word is our assurance,
Gives peace to you and me.
And when we make a promise,
For us it’s do or die,
‘Cause we reflect the character,
Of the One who cannot lie.
We say it, then we do it,
You can take it to the bank,
The Spirit gives us power,
And we have Him to thank,
To make us sure and steady,
Those you can count upon,
Come hell or high water,
Our word is still our bond.
Promise-makers, promise-keepers,
By God’s grace get it right,
It’s the way the Good Lord wants it,
With the children of the light.
“…and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5, NAS)
Hope is created by promises made and ultimately kept. Paul writes that the hope God gives us through Jesus Christ will never disappoint us. God’s love has been freely given to us and made real by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. it’s a wonderful thing to know that, no matter who else may have disappointed us, God never will. And all the more reason for us to be promise-keepers as well.
Lord, help us to make and keep our promises, in Jesus’ name.
