"Texas Moon"

Finished feeding cows and horses,

Topped off troughs late afternoon,

Sunset’s glow is slowly fading,

Now here comes that Texas moon.

Orange and pink over the pastures,

Soft and silent is its rise,

So huge and full of beauty,

Moving through the dusky skies.

And ‘fore long it will be soaring,

Brilliant white against the blue,

And it whispers to the lovers,

What God gives is always true.

And we gaze at it together,

As the shadows darken down,

‘Cause out here in the country,

So far from the lights of town,

Both the moon and stars are brighter,

And from them we take our cue,

That when the night is at its darkest,

The light is brightest, too.

And the hoot owl starts his calling,

Distant turkeys gobble here,

Moving silent through the shadows,

We can see the stealthy deer.

And the day leans back and leaves us,

And the night brings peace and rest,

And we thankfully are breathing,

God’s highest and His best.

The moon, she is our sister,

The stars our family, too,

The sun is our big brother,

The creation’s rendezvous.

As we praise the one Creator,

Who gives grace both night and day,

It’s all here for His glory,

So joyfully we say,

Texas moon, we see you,

As you soar across the night,

We’ll be praising till the morning,

Brings another day of light.

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.”(Psalm 19:1, NAS)

What God has created points to the Creator. The design points to the Designer. The masterpiece points to the Artist. it is all so beautiful, and God, who loves beauty, uses it to draw us to Himself. The night sky, the sunrise, the sunset, the magnificence of it all tells us of His glory. Glory connotes two things: God’s praise and God’s presence. All of it constantly declares to us that He is there and is worthy to be praised.

Lord, help us give You glory, in Jesus’ name.
