"Quiet Place"

The quiet place far from the race,

With sun and land and wind,

A horseback go and there will show,

What you left way back then.

With younger heart you took the part,

Of cowboy in the crew,

Learning how, remember now,

As if it all was new.

And when you do, I’m telling you,

You’ll wonder why you left,

What you loved, push came and shoved,

A victim of life’s theft.

This not to cry or wonder why,

Your cards were dealt this way,

But now go back and get on track,

Because you have today,

With time to heal and really feel,

The way you did before,

Close to the Lord and riding toward,

All that He had in store.

So listen close, the wind the most,

And hear God calling you,

Your first love from up above,

It’s not too late, it’s true.

“You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first.” (Revelation 2:4-5, NLT)

Loving something or someone always starts somewhere with a whole set of emotions attached. Over time, the love either grows stronger or weaker. We drift together or drift apart. With the Lord, the same is true. John the revelator spoke by the Spirit to the church at Ephesus that they had left their first love and needed to return to it. What a powerful message! The question remains: Was there ever a time when we loved the Lord more than we do now? If so, we need to come back, and do what we did at the beginning.

Lord, help us love You the way we did when we first received Your grace, in Jesus’ name.
