"Race"

There’s no disgrace, to lose the race,

But a shame if you don’t run,

God blesses try, so never shy,

From all that might be done.

But never will if all our skill,

Is wasted and unused,

God says we can, His flame we fan,

We need not be confused.

Rise in faith, God’s promise saith,

More than we ask or think,

Our God can do, and do through you,

And faster than a blink,

We run that race, see Jesus face,

Smiling at the end,

Never tire, it’s God’s desire,

To bless us and defend.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7, NAS)

Paul could see the end of his life and knew it would not be long before he would be going home to Jesus. His testimony is powerful. He had fought the fight and finished the race. It is important for us to see that finishing is winning. All too often we compare ourselves to others who may seem more spiritual than we are, and think of a thousand things we could have done better. But God does not compare us, and knowing that You have finished what God calls you to do is a blessing. So what if there were detours along the way? What matters is that we finish, and by the grace of God we will.

Lord, help us to finish our race, in Jesus’ name.
