"Speak"

If Jesus Christ walked in your door,

What do you think He’d say,

What would be His first words,

If you heard Him speak today.

He might just tell you not to fear,

That you could trust His voice,

Maybe take your phone away,

To save you from the noise.

I’m pretty sure you’d hear the word,

That might cause  you surprise,

‘Cause He’s been saying yes to you,

Despite the devil’s lies.

Because, you see, what people think,

Is all He says is no,

Truth is Jesus is God’s yes,

And that’s what He will show.

If we care to listen,

And focus on His word,

To take our cue from what He says,

Not all the rest we’ve heard.

And in the end it never is,

What other people say,

Or even what we tell ourselves,

On any given day.

But rather what the Good Lord speaks,

His truth will set us free,

If we listen and obey,

It’s who we’re meant to be.

So break false scripts and cast out lies,

‘Cause the One who loves us most,

Will tell us what we need to hear,

And let us know He’s close.

“For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us- by me and Sylvanus and Timothy- was not yes and no, but yes in Him.” (2 Corinthians 1:19, NAS)

Paul writes that Jesus is God’s ultimate yes to us. In Jesus, every good thing God ever promised humankind is personified and affirmed. It is the deception of the enemy who convinces people that what God mostly says is no. For example, the serpent asked Eve if God had prohibited them from eating any of the garden’s fruit. The opposite was true. All the fruit of the garden was theirs except just one. There were hundreds, maybe thousand of yeses, and just one no. What God prohibits is simply to give us safe boundaries for our own good. But he overwhelmingly says yes to us. while saying no to the behavior that makes us sick. Listen for God’s yes.

Lord, help us to hear your yes while honoring your no, in Jesus’ name.
