"Rain"

It’s raining down in torrents,

It’s filled up every ditch,

It’s blowing through the treetops,

And flowed all ways and which.

It’s thundered and it’s crackled,

It’s split the sky and boomed,

It broke a bunch of tree limbs,

And cross the prairies zoomed.

It’s water that’s life-giving,

And after it’s been dry,

There ain’t nothing like it,

Stand on the porch and sigh.

And watch all of that water,

As it pours off the tin,

Down into the front yard,

It something heaven sends.

And, yes, we love the sunshine,

But thank God for that rain,

‘Cause every time we get it,

We praise the Lord again.

“There will be showers of blessing…” (Ezekiel 34:26, NLT)

God knows there’s nothing like a cool drink of water when you’re thirsty. And there’s nothing more refreshing than rainfall when the land has been dry. Those who live close to the land know that rainfall is essential, and everything depends on getting enough. That’s why those who do seem to be a bit closer to God, simply because their whole survival and livelihood are about something they can’t control. What a beautiful promise the prophet spoke to the people in this verse. Times have been hard and dry, but God is going to shower you with His blessings. The God who showered them showers us with grace through Jesus Christ. Come on in, the water’s fine!

Lord, quench our thirst and shower us with blessing, in Jesus’ name.
