"Remember that Time"

Remember that time, he slapped his knee,

We laughed and talked ‘bout times that we,

Roped and rode, no doubt to be,

Wild cowboys, that was us.

Times at our old rodeo,

Chasing steers, so wild you know,

Before the years made stiffness grow,

And joints began their fuss.

We talked of horses that we knew,

Old Ben and Annie, Drifter, too,

And crazy trails, went down a few,

But also tried to be,

Good men who worked and did what’s right,

Raised kids and grand-kids in the light,

But never saw the end in sight,

No, never had a clue.

I know my friend in heaven there,

Left me behind but still I swear,

Sometimes I don’t think it’s fair,

That he departed so,

God knows best, I know it’s true,

But we had so much more to do,

So long, old pard, I’m coming, too,

When it’s my time to go.

“The Lord cares deeply when His loved ones die.” (Psalm 116:15, NLT)

Death is a reality of this life and, sooner or later, we all have to deal with it. When someone you love dies suddenly or unexpectantly, it can be particularly difficult to deal with the pain we feel. We just wish so much that they were still here, even though we know they are in a better place through faith in Jesus Christ. Still, receiving God’s comfort is necessary. If we could see death from the divine perspective, heaven’s eye view so to speak, we would view it differently. It is precious to the Lord when a child of His crosses over, because His welcome lasts forever.

Lord, help us trust You to help us deal with our bereavement when others go. Help us be ready when it’s our time, in Jesus’ name.
