Ride the River

Went down to the river,

Just lookin’ for some strays,

Didn’t know that the people,

Were going there to pray.

They sang by the river,

They read the Good Book,

They started to baptize,

I got a real good look.

At all of these people,

Just praising His name,

Go down in the water,

And raised up again.

I sat on my pony,

It came over me,

That this was where the Good Lord,

Had led me to be.

I was a wild cowboy,

Just a-chasin’ cows,

But the Lord surely led me,

To that place somehow.

I stepped off my pony,

Got down on my knees,

And asked the Lord Jesus,

If He would please,

Come into my heart,

And forgive all my sins,

Take charge of my life,

And be my best friend.

I felt the Spirit,

And I have to say,

That I had never,

Been touched that way.

Went into the river,

In His name went down,

They raised me back up again,

And I heard the sound,

Of singin’ and a-shoutin’,

I knew just for me,

A brand-new child of God,

And from sin set free.

It’s been long ago,

When on that day,

I rode the river,

Lookin’ for strays.

But I was the one,

That found his way home,

Turning to Jesus,

To never more roam.

Yes, Jesus touched me,

And gave to me,

That day by the river,

Life eternally.

“Therefore we are buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life…” (Romans 6:4)
