"Roping Spirit"

When the Holy Spirit ropes you,

And pulls away His slack,

And dallies down to stop you,

With plans to turn you back.

He’s trying not to jerk you,

Or throw you to the ground,

He just wants to heal you,

And help you come around,

To what the Lord has promised,

And wants to freely give,

Make clean all that is sinful,

And show you how to live.

So really He is gentle,

But if you make a run,

Don’t think that He will miss you,

He’ll chase you till you’re done,

And then He’ll lead you homeward,

Just where you ought to be,

A life of full abundance,

That lasts eternally.

“He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth…” (John 14:17, NLT).

The Holy Spirit is not an “it.” He is a person, and just as personal as the Father and the Son. I know, three yet one doesn’t really make sense but it doesn’t have to. It’s true beyond our understanding. Anyway, back to the Holy Spirit. He is that part of God that interacts personally in this dimension with us. God is eternally ONE IN THREE, but in some miraculous sense it is the Spirit who pursues and persuades us to turn to Father and accept His way of salvation through the Son. When we do, the Spirit comes to live within and we experience a new birth. But that’s just the beginning. The Spirit then establishes Himself as the leader of our lives and the One who energizes and empowers us. When you think “filled with the Spirit” think “controlled by the Spirit.” That’s really what the Christian life is all about. The Holy Spirit does through us what we could never do in our own strength, but thank God we don’t have to!

Lord, fill us with Your Spirit and lead every part of our lives, in Jesus’ name.
