"Rural"
I wondered and I wandered,
And I traveled far away,
To places where the people,
All lived a different way.
They didn’t seem too happy,
They tended to get mad,
Really argumentative,
Not content with what they had.
They dwelt all close together,
In cities full of noise,
Their pace was downright frantic,
And even all their toys,
Spilled out smoke and menace,
A danger to the peace,
And as soon as possible,
I got a quick release.
I escaped back to the country,
As ever quick I could,
Though others are enamored,
I knew I never would,
So I’ll stay with the cattle,
And the horses of my string,
And find the simple pleasures,
That the rural life will bring.
And, yes, I have a partner,
Who loves to be with me,
Out here where the wind blows,
And the stars are bright, you see.
Deep in the heart of Texas,
It’s where I greet each day,
And by the grace the Good Lord gives,
It’s where I plan to stay.
“You go before me and follow me. You place Your hand of blessing on my head…” (Psalm 139:5, NLT)
No matter where we are, the Lord is there. That said, the world is a noisy place, and if we aren’t careful His voice will be drowned out. Those who live in the big cities can find the Lord and serve Him just as everyone else. And the Lord may assign us to be witnesses there. There are some of us who have the honor of living in a rural setting that gives us the quiet and solitude we need. Either way, He places His hand of blessing on us.
Lord, thank You for Your constant presence, in Jesus’ name.
