"Woke"

Being woke is just a spoke,

In an ever spinning wheel,

Turning fast, the die is cast,

It’s all the devil’s deal.

God’s image clear, in God’s Word dear,

Both male and female they,

Created them, as her and him,

On that very first sixth day.

When they say, and everyday,

That dark is really light,

The light is dark, the bite and bark,

Is everything but right.

When men kiss men it’s quite a spin,

From how we once were raised,

And women, too, with what they do,

With boldness and unfazed.

Don’t be deceived nor be relieved,

By all the devil’s dance,

We put our trust, in God we must,

‘Cause it’s our only chance.

And we don’t judge, but we can’t budge,

From what the Good Book says,

Wrong’s still sin, and right will win,

God will take care of His.

All are loved, push comes to shove,

When truth in love we speak,

But the Spirit’s strong, to Him belong,

His strength though we are weak.

Wake to find God’s peace of mind,

Not woke as they promote,

Foundations lay, by God’s true way,

And not by human vote.

Christ died so we can be set free,

His blood shed there for all,

And every race can see His face,

If on Him they will call.

“This is why it said, ‘Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light…” (Ephesians 5:14, NLT)

The “woke” movement claims to be about having awareness and sensitivity to social issues regarding those who have been marginalized by our society. So far, so good. We are called to love and care for the least of these, according to Jesus. But the problem with the “woke” movement is that it recognizes no moral absolutes and actually celebrates and promotes immoral lifestyles that the scriptures tell us are wrong. Being truly awake means we wake up to our own sinfulness and need for God’s grace. When His light shines on us we wake up to the identity and life God wants to give us. We are raised to life by the power of Jesus Christ.

Lord, help us wake up to Your way and will, in Jesus’ name.
