"Seed"

The thirsty ground drank up the rain,

Winter rye began to sprout,

Glad we planted when we did,

And got that seed put out.

The greening of the pastures,

Near the Brazos’ flowing stream,

Makes all the livestock happy,

And as well this cowboy’s dream.

And over in one corner,

A brand new project tried,

There we sowed some fescue,

And in you I’ll confide,

We grazed it back in Bama,

Not many use it here,

We got a strong stand of it,

And just to make it clear,

We’re hoping that the fescue,

Gives us grass that we will keep,

But one thing that’s for certain,

Is what you sow you reap.

But deciding on the harvest,

Before you plant the seed,

Is the wise approach to planting,

And will give you what you need.

And this should not surprise us,

‘Cause it’s what the Good Book taught,

The words of the apostle,

When God’s truth to us is brought.

Do not be deceived he said,

About your choices made,

They contain the consequence,

When the harvest is displayed.

Connect the dots ahead of time,

And sows seed to the Spirit,

Those results the Lord will bless,

And it is time we hear it.

Some ask God for miracles,

When their harvest is real bad,

But God says that the difference,

Comes with the choice you had.

And, yes, the Lord forgives us,

And there’s a lesson to be learned,

But planting better seeds you know,

Is best for all concerned.

Sowing and then reaping,

Is God’s own plan, you see,

And through our obedience,

To produce what ought to be.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” (Galatians 6:7, NAS)

God longs to partner with us to produce future harvest. If we sow spiritual seeds, we will reap a spiritual harvest in accordance with God’s will. Our choices are like seeds that contain the consequences of what we choose. In the financial sphere it’s about return on investment. In sports it’s having a game plan and following it for the win. In business it’s marketing with enough profit margin to expand. From a spiritual point of view we plant righteous sees which are righteous choices that give a great return. When the harvest of blessing breaks it ultimately overwhelms the bad harvest of choices we made in the past.

Lord, help us sow the right seeds, in Jesus’ name.
