"Sickness"

Sicknesses that we all dread,

Some survive, but others dead,

No matter what the doctor said,

No one really knows,

Just how it all will go.

One time that I won’t forget,

Like yesterday, remember yet,

An old man dying, sad and set,

We knelt, and prayed for him,

Surprised by healing then.

And since that time I always pray,

For miracles and this I say,

In Jesus’ name, maybe today,

He’ll send His healing grace,

And joy will fill the place.

But sometimes not, we don’t know why,

The pain continues, people cry,

And some get weak and finally die,

The grief is oh, so sad,

And those times really bad.

We recognize and we believe,

Our bodies from Him we receive,

Give them back, His to retrieve,

Though dying, we will live,

Eternal life He gives.

And one day He will raise the dead,

It’s in His word, it’s what He said,

The Bride of Christ He soon will wed,

And no one else will die,

And every tear He’ll dry.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever…” (Revelation 21:4, NLT)

We face sicknesses, pain and death. As the Covid virus claims more lives, the grief deepens, and we are sometimes overwhelmed with sadness. The heavenly vision given to John can help us when we grieve. He saw a time when God removes all of it and wipes every tear from our eyes. It is our great expectation, and the reason we keep going no matter the challenge of life. We believe that this life in this world will not have the last say. Death will not win because Jesus has broken its power and will one day remove it altogether. Though our bodies are dying, and others have succumbed to physical death, we are being renewed in our spirits everyday. And we entrust our loved ones who’ve gone before into the hands of a merciful God. We grieve, but not without hope.

Lord, heal the sick, comfort the grieving, and bless the day, in Jesus’ name.
