"Someday"

I know somewhere and someday,

Seem a long way off,

And when you talk about it,

People laugh and scoff.

‘Cause your dream seems like fantasy,

To those who have no dream,

And they can be offended,

Least that’s the way it seems.

They say that you are foolish,

To ask what if and why,

Put down what you envision,

And what you’d like to try.

‘Cause their lives are predictable,

They’ve got their future set,

And yours just isn’t like that,

But it’s not over yet.

And if the Lord can part the sea,

For His folks way back when,

He can make a way for you,

Just walk by faith and then,

He can make your dream come true,

Just like with David’s aim,

When he killed old Goliath,

Your problems just the same.

If Jesus opened blind eyes,

He can heal your blindness, too,

And if Peter could reach thousands,

He can show you what to do.

If God can change a terrorist,

And turn from Saul to Paul,

Then He can still do miracles,

And give to you His call.

And that’s what it amounts to,

With someday and somewhere,

‘Cause God will make you ready,

And He will take you there.

So look up now, my children,

Don’t let what people say,

Discourage or defeat you,

God will make a way.

Your somewhere and your someday,

Will reach you soon, you see,

Live in their inspiration,

Until they come to be.

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen…” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NLT)

It’s very challenging to fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. Why? Because what we see can be so overwhelming. If what you see threatens and intimidates you, your faith in what you cannot see is even more important. But that’s just the point, isn’t it? Paul says there are basically two ways to live. You can go by the immediate, temporary, earthly reality and let that determine how you feel and what you do. Or, you can go by the long-term, eternal, spiritual reality and let that lead the way. And that is what walking by faith is all about. It doesn’t mean we are naive about the problems we face, or that we are waiting for God to “fix” all that is wrong. Rather, it means that we proactively engage this life in the power of God’s Holy Spirit and ask Him to lead us into the future He has planned for us. Dream big. It’s what the Lord wants us to do.

Lord, help us live into the future You have planned for us, in Jesus’ name.
