"Something Simple"

Something simple like a long, cold drink,

That water sure is good,

When you’ve been out there workin’,

Just like you knew it would.

Something simple like the fragrance,

Of the hay just when it’s mowed,

Or the windy scent of summer rain,

When you’re horseback down the road.

The sound of children laughing,

Something really got their tickle,

Too bad if we’re too jaded,

Or gotten far too fickle,

To be thankful when the velvet nose,

Of your favorite mount,

Brushes soft against your arm,

Too many times to count.

Those simple, little moments,

When the geese honk overhead,

Soaring in their flying v,

Good-bye is what they said.

Or a hummingbird comes flittin’ by,

Along his busy way,

A thousand colors in the sun,

I love to watch ‘em play.

A flower growing through a crack,

Your lover’s eyes so kind,

A tune you danced to long ago,

Still easy on your mind.

So many tastes and sounds and sights,

That greet us day to day,

And in it all and through them all,

The Good Lord’s words still say,

That He’s the Lord of beauty,

His love is shining there,

And He is always with us,

And wants to show His care.

Don’t miss the simple moments,

They come as God’s caress,

To let us feel His mercy,

His heart desires to bless.

“He causes us to remember His wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our Lord!” (Psalm 111:4, NLT)

The psalmist reminds us to be thankful for all that the Lord has done for us. This includes powerful miracles of deliverance all the way to something as simple as the daily food we need to survive. The little things sometimes go by unnoticed. We take them for granted or get too busy or whatever, then wake up one day and wonder where life went. I believe that the agenda of heaven is to invade our day to day with blessings of beauty and blessing. The more aware we become the more thankful we will be.

Lord, remind us to be thankful for all You have done and are doing in our lives, in Jesus’ name.
