"Quiver Full"
Forty years ago plus five,
They put her in my arms,
A little girl made me a Dad,
Her blue eyes full of charms.
Three short years flew right on by,
And another little girl,
Was born, I was a Dad again,
My heart all in a whirl.
Then a son, I thought just one,
To fill my heart with pride,
Two daughters more, both miracles,
I will in you confide,
With those five children I was blessed,
And never thought of more,
But then a little grandson came,
God knew what was in store.
When just a baby five months old,
He came to live with me,
I raised him like he was a son,
And adopted finally.
So six it was and six it is,
And how my life has changed,
With those six kids I call my own,
No matter how they’ve ranged.
My heart toward them is tender,
I guess will always be,
And only those who know me best,
Know what they mean to me.
The Bible calls them arrows,
Placed in a warrior’s hands,
We send into the future,
According to God’s plans.
Thankful for a quiver full,
The blessing came to me,
I pray they’re bound to all God’s best,
From the evil one set free.
“Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!” (Psalm 127:4-5, NLT)
Children are a great blessing from the Lord. Even though they may get on our last nerve and cause many sleepless nights, the joy of having them and loving them outweighs any stress along the way. The Bible in these verses calls them arrows in a warrior’s hands. The clear implication is that we will “shoot” them into the future, praying that their lives are blessed by the Lord. It is the parent that determines the trajectory, and that’s why it’s so important that we aim them correctly. Someone has said that if we don’t teach our kids to love Jesus, the world will teach them to love something or someone else. Aim carefully.
Lord, help us send our children into the world ready to serve You, in Jesus’ name.
