"Stars"

They shine above so fiercely,

A-twinkling from the sky,

The inky blue-black canopy,

A million millions high.

Endless in their distance,

Yet bring wishes from the heart,

The dreamers with their dreaming,

Shared by people far apart.

There’s just something about them,

So many and so bright,

Above they tell the story,

Of heaven’s awesome light.

They all declare His glory,

It’s why the stars are there,

To show us just how small we are,

And that the Creator cares.

And that great revelation,

From the farthest star,

Points to One who loves us,

And tells us who we are.

They say the stars in Texas,

Are always big and bright,

And in the heart of Texas,

I gaze at them each night.

My heart is filled with wonder,

It drives out all my fear,

When I see the stars above,

And know that God is near.

Look up, look up, my brother,

The night sky calls above,

Look up, look up, my sister,

And see God’s awesome love.

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display His craftsmanship.” (Psalm 19:1, NLT)

Centuries ago David the psalmist spoke of how the heavens give silent testimony to the wonder of the Creator. How many nights did he spend under the star-filled sky tending the sheep of his father? We do not know. But we do know he never forgot the power of what he saw, or the power of the God who became His shepherd. We should look up and remember, too.

Lord, help us pay attention to Your glory, in Jesus’ name.
