"Mist"
Riding through the morning,
When the mist lays o’er the grass,
Soon the sun takes it away,
And it does not long last.
But in the early morning,
It’s a beauty to behold,
Blankets grassy pastures,
Before the day unfolds.
Wet upon my horse’s knees,
And cool ‘fore it gets hot,
The breezes stir, like kittens purr,
As across the fields we trot.
I remember that old scripture verse,
Believe it’s found in James,
Talks about the morning fog,
And just how quick the change,
From being here and being gone,
And being in God’s will,
And not being presumptuous,
About the days left still.
The sun is high and I must try,
To do the best I can,
To make the most of every day,
And follow God’s own plan.
“Your life is like the morning fog- it’s here a little while, then it’s gone…” (James 4:14, NLT)
The Bible teaches that this earthly life is very transient and temporary. If you live very long you realize how fast it passes. Blink, and it’s gone. Weeks, months, years, and even decades blur in our memory. The only way for real meaning to fill our days is to be filled with God’s word and will. Then our time takes on eternal significance and becomes an expression of God’s will, not ours. It’s the only way for life to be maximized and not trivialized.
Lord, help us to fill our lives with Your word and will, in Jesus’ name.
