"Steak"

When I’m really feelin’ hungry,

And I’m overdue to eat,

I really love a juicy steak,

For me it can’t be beat.

I like a bone-in ribeye,

Won’t miss a sirloin strip,

I can’t turn down filet mignon,

It’s really worth the trip.

And when I cut into it,

My heart is filled with thanks,

For the cattlemen who raised it,

No other food outranks.

I think of the apostle,

When he spoke about the word,

He said they couldn’t handle meat,

And milk was all they heard.

We should not be babies,

But grow up strong and true,

Fed on God’s own T-bones,

And then go out and do,

All that He’s commanded,

Just go and get it done,

Burning godly calories,

For Jesus Christ the Son.

And brother, when we’re hungry,

He’ll fill up every plate,

With steak at God’s own table,

And He won’t make us wait.

“I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not able.” (1 Corinthians 3:2, NAS)

Paul was a teacher of God’s word, and expected Jesus-followers to grow spiritually. He knew that God’s word had the power to transform their lives if they embraced and applied it to their lives. They would grow deeper in their discernment, wisdom and understanding, and he would be able to lead them into a diet of spiritual meat. He was disappointed when he realized they had gotten stuck and were not keeping pace with the Spirit. This is an important lesson. God wants to lead us ever deeper into His truth, and show us how to manifest the life of Jesus more consistently. Go for the steak of God’s word!

Lord, make us ready to feed on the meat of Your word, in Jesus’ name.
