"Promise"

You know you’ve found a treasure,

It’s value hard to measure,

When you find a man who’ll keep his word.

If he says it he will do it,

If it’s tested he’ll go through it,

And you won’t worry if he has misheard.

‘Cause he values every promise,

And he’s no doubting Thomas,

Expects the same who give their word to him.

Even if it hurts him,

The risk merely alerts him,

Sees clearly with a  vision that won’t dim.

And you will not regret it,

The moment that he said it,

Words of life and only what is true.

He delivers what’s expected,

And for that he’ll be respected,

He’ll always do just what he says he’ll do

“He swears to his own hurt and does not change…” (Psalm 15:4, NAS)

When a person is a promise-keeper it means that they will keep their word even if it becomes painful to do so. Maybe when the promise was made things were going a certain way, but then they changed. A person of integrity does not allow the circumstance to alter the word that was given. He “swears to his own hurt,” meaning even if keeping his word is costly he will still do it. it is difficult to find such people and when we do, we should hold onto them. They will be an asset for life.

Lord, help us keep our word and find others who will, to, in Jesus’ name.
