"Steep"

Sometimes the trail is steep and rough,

You wonder if you have enough,

Of what it takes, you know, the stuff,

To finish what you start.

They say the dark before the dawn,

The night gets black before it’s gone,

And so don’t stop, but just go on,

The dream God gave your heart.

For me the circle has been wide,

With lots of heartbreak on the ride,

And how I felt I’d often hide,

But God has seen me through.

To brighter times of blessing real,

And I received the grace to heal,

And some of you know how I feel,

‘Cause He has helped you, too.

So just go on in Jesus’ name,

The strength to ride is yours to claim,

To overcome for Jesus’ fame,

He works in everything.

For His glory and our good,

We walk by faith, and well we should,

To please Him every time, we could,

‘Cause what we need He’ll bring.

“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness…’” (2 Corinthians 12:10)

Life’s trail gets steep and difficult at times. When obstacles arise, our natural tendency is to ask God to remove them. Sometimes He does, and it’s wonderful when the Lord performs that kind of miracle. The sickness is healed, the door is opened, the Lord delivers us out of a terrible situation, etc. But sometimes another kind of miracle is granted. That’s when the Lord doesn’t change everything, but gives us grace to go through it. In the process he changes us, and we learn to depend upon Him in deeper ways. We learn that God works in everything, and our weakness becomes a catalyst for His strength to shine through.

Lord, teach us to rely on Your grace that is always sufficient, in Jesus’ name.
