"Together"

Some believe it’s best to be,

A solitary man, you see,

Like old John Wayne, don’t mess with me,

He was a prototype,

Of the man who walks alone,

Courage, the example shone,

No one helping, on his own,

When bad guys take a swipe.

But though it’s something we admire,

Teamwork builds a different fire,

When brothers help and we aspire,

To fight against the wrong.

Sometimes it’s just two or three,

Who come together, strong to be,

The power of not one, but we,

With loyalty belong.

God sends help and uses men,

A band of brothers who can win,

And help each other fight the sin,

That steals all our belief.

We rise together in the fray,

Strong in spirit and we say,

Begone, devil, you can’t stay

The Lord will bring relief.

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all the parts are many, they form one body…” (1 Corinthians 12:12. NIV)

We come to experience God’s salvation as individuals, but when we do God joins us together with all who have received His grace. Paul compares this spiritual connection to the human body which has many parts that function together. He says we act as differing body parts with unique gifts and function. Are we responsible for our own obedience and relationship with the Lord? Absolutely! But are we called to operate as lone rangers? Absolutely not! We are part of a spiritual team of support and accountability which allows us to do much more together than we ever could as individuals.

Lord, teach us to team up with one another, in Jesus’ name.
