"Stories"
Do you know as you sit here,
What cowboys often say,
When they start out with their coffee,
Or at the end of day.
The talk will turn to horses,
The good ones they have known,
Or sometimes one that’s broncy,
And from their back was thrown.
There’s just something about it,
They never do get tired,
Of the mares that made good mamas,
Or the colts that good stud sired.
Sometimes they talk of ropin’ wrecks,
Breakin’ bones and fingers gone,
Or maybe when one got away,
Though they chased ‘em for so long.
They’ll speak of crazy cattle,
Fence-jumpin,’ fightin’ fools,
When someone got run over,
No matter help or tools.
And then there’ll be a moment,
When you’ll hear ‘em speak a name,
Of some old fallen cowboy,
And how things aren’t the same,
Since that old boy crossed over,
And what a hand he was,
And one by one they drift away,
And maybe it’s because,
They know that they are mortal,
And they’ll cross over, too,
And maybe ‘fore they go to bed,
They’ll think about what’s true.
That Jesus died to save us,
And faith can make it so,
And death is not the ending,
But to heaven we can go.
I love to hear the cowboys,
Tell stories of back when,
But best of all the story,
Of Jesus’ love for them.
Tell me the stories of Jesus,
I want to hear,
Things I would ask Him to tell me,
If He were here.
“For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:6, NAS)
Some might be offended when the Bible calls them ungodly. But the truth of the matter is that all of us have sinned and are in need of a Savior. Jesus died for us prior to our birth into the world and any sinful choices made. But His was an eternal atonement, meaning He satisfied God’s judgment for all people in every generation. The designation as ungodly merely diagnoses our need while providing the ultimate remedy. We were helpless and hopeless, but Jesus is our hope and help. Praise the Lord.
Lord, the story of Your love is eternal and we are thankful, in Jesus’ name.
