"Story"
I’ve traveled trails of sadness,
Lost every ounce of gladness,
Lived with heartbreak’s madness,
And wondered if I’d live,
To say it would get better,
Deliver like a letter,
To all bound by sin’s fetter,
A testimony give.
But when you’re going through it,
You’re not sure you will do it,
So thoroughly you blew it,
Discouragement is real.
You can’t escape the Spirit,
He’ll make sure you can hear it,
You need never fear it,
He knows just how you feel.
And this is what He uses,
The stronghold He defuses,
And casts out what confuses,
The story of His grace.
Shared ‘cause you receive it,
So others can believe it,
Nothing better to relieve it,
Burdens gone without a trace.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NAS)
Jesus offers rest to the exhausted. This is very good news, and if people really believed it was true, there would be less need for psychiatric therapy and prescriptions. God uses these things, too, no doubt. But many of these problems could be solved by turning to Jesus. Those of us who have been hopelessly lost in the pit of despair know what the Lord can do with depression. He can cast it out, and then use us to share His relief with others. If you know, you know.
Lord, lift our burdens, in Jesus’ name.
