"Tapestry"
All the wonder and the fury of the waves upon the shore,
With their iridescent beauty rising, falling evermore.
To tell us dawn to dusking and all across the night,
That You always will be with us and none can stop Your might.
How majestic is the mountain boldly there in distant blue,
With snowy peaks whose fountain summer’s heat cannot undo,
To tell us by, its vastness and its strength from base to peak,
That You offer all Your power to the weakest of the weak.
How beautiful the river flowing swiftly through the land,
Like an arrow loosed from quiver on its way to distant strand,
Ever running, bubbling, churning, and bringing life to all,
Words You speak to us so freely with the Spirit’s river call.
How vast and strong the desert with its space of silent reach,
A multi-colored concert, all its ancient lessons teach,
Reminding with its worship that to draw near means be still,
So that on the wind the whisper your ear and heart can fill.
Using His creation as amazing tapestry,
It’s all His fascination and His love for you and me,
To invite us to the dances that our souls are longing for,
Hallelujah He romances those He calls from every shore.
“Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea- the Lord on high is mighty…” (Psalm 93:4, NIV)
The majestic wonders of nature point to the majesty of the Creator. Whether sea or mountain or desert or meadow, it all reflects His beauty and the design set in motion by the Designer. When my mother saw the Grand Canyon for the first time she wept, then she worshipped. Compared to the Great Wall of China was interesting and even impressive. But not the motivation for adoring praise to God. I have seen His hand resting on the slope of a mountain so steep that a goat would be challenged, and there felt a profound sense of thanksgiving. The desert has impacted me the same way as has the seashore. I am from Alabama where the sand is the color and consistency of table sugar. I have wept as I walked the beach because my heart was so filled with gratitude. The Psalmist describes this feeling over and over and this is exactly what the Creator intended to evoke. The most authentically human to do is worship. It’s what we are destined to do forever.
Lord, use Your creation to inspire us to worship You, in Jesus’ name.
