"Team"

The smoke from that old brandin’ fire,

Blew right up in my face,

The dust from heelin,’ draggin’ calves,

Was just all o’er the place.

The sweat and blood and cattle noise,

The shouts from cowhands, too,

Take a turn, shake out your loop,

There’s lots more work to do.

The coffee from a steaming cup,

Warm biscuits, I’ll take two,

Catch your breath and go again,

We’ll work till we are through.

Nobody’s playin’ cowboy,

We all just pitch right in,

On the ground, a-horseback,

We’re all puncher kin.

Load  your pony, crank your truck,

Wave to all good-bye,

Heading home across the miles,

The sunset in the sky.

Love the life and love the work,

And love the time we spend,

Reminds me of the yester-years,

And cowboys way back when.

Every one should pull his load,

It’s what work is about,

But when we work together,

We’re better off, no doubt.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, NAS)

Life can get heavy, but there is great relief when someone comes along to help. We are called to team up and do just that. God is not calling lone rangers. He’s raising up a posse! When two or more gather, agree, and pray together God promises His blessing and presence. When someone stumbles, it’s time to go after them and try to help. Fulfilling the law of Christ means we love one another the way He loves us.

Lord, help us bear each other’s burdens, in Jesus’ name.
