"That Love"
The love we find along the way,
We think will always last,
At least we hope that it will stay,
And always be steadfast.
But then we find that we are wrong,
This life will twist and turn,
It doesn’t take us very long,
And we like others learn,
That though a promise may be made,
It sometimes won’t be kept,
For some it’s like a game that’s played,
With those who can’t accept,
That the one they trusted,
Was someone whom you can’t,
And till your heart is busted,
Doubt’s benefit you grant.
Maybe God will give you one,
He sends them just for you,
And He’ll make clear that when they come,
It’s His plan coming true.
To show you of His love so true,
You scarce can understand,
It almost seems too good to you,
Too absolutely grand.
For the love the Savior gives us,
Excludes not one at all,
Something sure that we can trust,
And by name He will call,
To say to every heart that bleeds,
And needs His healing touch,
He alone can meet our needs,
He loves us all that much.
No matter what you’ve felt before,
Let nothing hold you back,
His love unlocks life’s blessing door,
Gives everything we lack.
The solid rock on which to build,
Foundation strong and sure,
The love of God, with power filled,
Is this life’s only cure.
“And may you understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.” (Ephesians 3:18, NLT)
Paul is speaking about the immensity of God’s love which is ultimately immeasurable. It is also incomparable, greater than any verbage or comparison we might use to describe it. Yet, Paul says that all God’s people should understand it, though it cannot be fully grasped. Why? Because of its sheer magnitude. In short, God’s love is time and eternity’s largest of all realities, the ultimate hope for healing, and the miracle of miracles. It is that which can forgive the worst sin, heal the worst dysfunction, and alter the most chaotic results. God’s love interrupts and changes everything it touches, especially us.
Lord, help understand Your live and be transformed by it, in Jesus’ name.
