"Tired"

Dead-tired, bone-tired, and really spent,

So drained you don’t know where it went,

My energy, is gone, you see,

It can plumb disorient.

I never did get really tired,

Worked at every job when hired,

But older now, it’s changed somehow,

I do what is required,

I don’t have a single doubt,

The work I do now wears me out,

I get it done, but walk, don’t run,

That’s what my try’s about.

I remember Dad would sometimes say,

That slowing down would be okay,

But he never did, and as a kid,

I kept my thoughts at bay.

But now that I’m an older guy,

I see now what he said and why,

A down-shift true, is good for you,

Don’t work until you die.

Find some time to stop and rest,

Life makes no sense if we are stressed,

A good time-out, we need, no doubt,

To count the ways we’re blessed.

I’ll admit a problem, too,

When I ask how the young folks do,

They say again, how tired they’ve been,

But how can this be true?

I want to tell them not so fast,

When they insist their strength won’t last,

Worked cows with Dad, rough times we had,

So much harder was the past.

Oh well, it’s not up to me,

I’m sure they work, I’ll let them be,

I ask God’s aid, that’s what I’ve prayed,

And He will hear my plea.

The promise that God makes to us,

He will help us, and won’t fuss,

Strength to renew, for me and you,

His power is the plus.

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength…” (Isaiah 40:31, NLT)

The scriptures have lots to say about receiving God’s strength. We say we believe in it, but avoid every situation that might require it. When life exhausts us, that’s when we need it the most! And when we do He will give us new strength every time. It might not happen instantly, but it will happen ultimately, and ultimately is what counts the most. You can faith your way through the darkest valley, and climb the highest mountain, if you’re willing to rely on the Lord’s strength to help you. Paul said, when I’m the weakest, He is the strongest. If you’ve been there, you know. If you haven’t, I pray you will.

Lord, give us Your strength, in Jesus’ name.
