"Way Out There"

Way out there, is always where,

I thought that I should be,

Beyond the care, and wear and tear,

Of life in town, you see.

I thought if I, could only try,

Out there I’d find a home,

There I’d fly, and true, no lie,

I’d never need to roam.

So down sometimes, so steep the climbs,

I thought there was no way,

Sins and crimes and wasted dimes,

And never quite okay.

But life for me, it changed you see,

I looked up and I found,

The place to be, both wild and free,

Some sacred, country ground.

And way out there, with her I share,

The place held in my dreams,

And now a pair, we’re living there,

We always have, it seems.

God is good, the One who could,

Bless me with this place,

The cottonwood, no neighborhood,

But everywhere His face.

“Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires…” (Psalm 37:4, NLT)

It was hard for me to believe this for a very long time. When I read this promise I thought I just needed to change what I wanted. And so I surrendered what I dreamed about to the Lord. I surrendered control to Jesus, and made up my mind to do whatever it was He led me to do. The things I desired I put aside, and trusted God to take care of me and them. But over time, and with many years in the making, the desires of my heart came true. The place where I live and with whom are gifts from the Lord. I delighted in Him. He gave me my heart’s desires. I am thankful.

Lord, help us to delight in You, in Jesus’ name.
