"Tomorrow"
We’re on the way to somewhere,
Tomorrow’s what it’s called,
And though we plan it carefully,
Sometimes we are appalled,
By surprises that can happen,
Like a gentle horse with buck,
Maybe you’re in the saddle,
When you run short of luck.
You leave home really early,
No chance you can be late,
And suddenly an accident,
Makes you have to wait.
And then no way you make it,
The wreck stole your on time,
And then you hope for mercy,
Since you are in a bind.
Stress comes with surprises,
It’s uphill to adjust,
But blessed are the flexible,
Their patience is a must.
Trouble’s not for sissies,
The challenge can cause pain,
But those who learn to overcome,
Find their sweetest gain.
Comes when they are tired,
Because of all the fight,
But in the end the struggle,
Is worth it when we’re right.
Don’t know what tomorrow holds,
But know this much is true,
I know who holds tomorrow,
And I can trust Him, too.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34, NIV)
What might happen or could happen probably won’t. But the possibility is always there, right? So we worry. Some deal with it by lowering their expectations. Expect nothing or at least something bad and then if it works out you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If not, at least you didn’t get your hopes up. People play all sorts of mind games, trying to cope with tomorrow’s trouble when it’s not even here yet. Jesus counsels us to live one day at a time by faith, and seek the Kingdom of God above all else. Put tomorrow in the hands of the God whom you can trust and is never surprised.
Lord, help us put tomorrow in Your hands and seek Your Kingdom today, in Jesus’ name.
