"Tossed"
The cash you lost when you were tossed,
You could not get it back.
That horse could buck, and just your luck,
To ride him in the slack.
So what to do when you’re through,
And that chance is long gone.
When you fall, is it your call,
To quit or get back on?
Those who win, begin again,
And learn from what went wrong.
They do not quit, and that’s just it,
That keeps them going strong.
So if you’re down, and hit the ground,
So hard you thought you’re through.
You’ll come around, and safe and sound,
When you know this is true.
You haven’t failed, if you don’t bail,
Get up and go again.
Rise and try, the truth, no lie,
You must not quit, my friend.
“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13, NLT)
Paul wrote these words while incarcerated in Rome. He had plans to do mission work in Spain, but lost his life instead. But Paul had learned that no matter his circumstance he could overcome. His peace, and ultimately his strength, did not depend on what was happening to him. Rather, it was all about what was happening inside him. That’s why he never gave up, but kept going in the strength the Lord gave him. He will give it to us, too.
Lord, strengthen us and help us never to quit, in Jesus’ name.
