"Truth"

We know all that’s happening,

All across this earth,

The news is on our telephones,

Is it a blessing or a curse?

The headlines never take a break,

There is an endless flow,

On TV, laptops, watches,

A volume of info.

So tell me how it’s possible,

Since we know more than ever,

That we view God’s unchanging truth,

As an outdated endeavor.

Knowing all and knowing more,

Cannot set us free,

But only truth we understand

It’s what God said will be.

Info can be helpful,

And it’s good to have the facts,

But unless the truth has set you free,

You never can relax.

And that’s because the devil’s lies,

Can really get to you,

And only when God’s word prevails,

Will you know what to do.

Don’t be those ever-learning,

But always lost along the way,

Astute with every headline,

But cannot hear God say,

Exactly what we need to hear,

He is faithful and He will,

But only if we’re listening,

And learn to just be still.

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:32, NAS)

Jesus spoke and exemplified the truth. He described it, defined it, and claimed to be the truth. His assertion that only truth can make us free is both universal and contemporary. No matter the bondage- hurt, addiction, spiritual strongholds- whatever, the answer is always the direct, personal application of God’s word. What God says about us and our condition is accurate. What God tells us to do about it- the same. Knowing the truth means we wholeheartedly accept, embrace and apply it. It alone brings freedom.

Lord, set us free with Your truth, in Jesus’ name.
