"The Lord's Work"
So what about the Lord’s work,
Who will He send and go,
Most are far too busy,
They can’t find time, you know.
And I’m not pointin’ fingers,
‘Cause I’ve been the same you see,
Lots of times He made His call,
And couldn’t count on me.
No doubt I’ve made excuses,
Like most of them, I guess,
But none of them held water,
Just my own selfishness.
And now that I’m an older man,
My youthful years are gone,
Don’t want to miss another thing,
Or ever get things wrong.
But say yes, Lord, I’m ready,
To go and do His will,
Trust Him to fill in the blank,
And with His Spirit fill.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8, NAS)
The call of Isaiah was indeed a powerful, holy moment. It was after His great vision of the presence of God filling the temple and his own sense of being unclean. After he received forgiveness he was able to hear the Lord’s call. The sequence is important. First we come for cleansing. Then we listen for calling. The first is necessary for us to hear the Lord. Isaiah was eager. “Send me,” he cried out. It is the cleansed heart that is eager to serve.
Lord, cleanse us and help us to hear, in Jesus’ name.
